ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CHAPLAINCY

It is the moral/civil responsibility of the catholic church to provide schools/educational facilities which produce citizens who will be of asset to the society and the nation at large.

To bring this reality to bear on the church’s community in Ashanti and in particular kumasi, Opoku Ware School was established in1952. The Chapel in the school was named after ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (one of the brainiest priests ever existed in the annals of the church).

OBJECTIVE OF THE CHAPLAINCY

Like any other Catholic educational facility, it has two main objectives. The first is to turn out intellectually sound students. And the second is to train young adults with good character. In short, to provide holistic education for young adults in the school.

THE TASK OF THE CHAPLAINCY
The moral and disciplinary formation fall directly on the shoulders of the chaplaincy just as the academic training is the concern of the Headmaster in-charge of academics.

MEANS OF REALISING THE SET OBJECTIVES OF THE CHAPLAINCY
The school authorities; Headmaster and his staff, the chaplain(s) and other resource persons are the instruments through which moral and disciplinary objectives are realized.

With the support of teaching and non-teaching staff, programmes are organised for students in the school. Celebrating mass, teaching the Word of God, counseling, celebrating feast days (such as St. Thomas Aquinas) “foyer talks” and other religious oriented programmes are intended to aid students to be disciplines and to know God, love God and neighbours and serve them unreservedly. In addition, the chaplain is tasked to teach religious and moral education.
The chaplain with the support of the Headmaster and staff, ensures that the Catholic character is maintained in the school. Whiles promoting Catholicism, a platform is also created for religious diversity.

RELIGOOIUS DIVERSITY

The religious culture in the school allows religious diversity. Students with other faith and denomination are allowed to practice their faith unimpeded. Students with other denominations are given space and freedom to discover God as they pursue their education. It is the desire of school authorities that students are brought up in an impeccable religious environment.

YOU HAVE STAKE

To achieve high academic and moral excellence, your ideas, suggestion and programmes that will fuel students’ enthusiasm in religious activities in the school are welcomed.
